It's not surprising how selfish people can be, people like the guests in the article are known to be greedy and entitled because they are unable to recognize others' problems and difficulties. It's selfish people like this that make it difficult to assist more unfortunate people, since, as the article states, poverty cannot be "fixed" but it can be "aided."
As these entitled people feel, the poor can be fixed in just one action, or one donation, but of course we know this not to be a fact. It's terrible the way the guests treated the hosts, but such is the way of life and interactions between people, and it can't be helped.
There are some people in this world that are self-absorbed and ignorant to others' problems.
